Job Summary

The Asphalt Laborer is responsible for executing manual tasks on job sites, providing support, and ensuring the smooth progress of projects. Union membership is required for this position.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform various manual tasks such as digging, lifting, carrying, and moving materials.
• Help prepare the job site by clearing obstacles and addressing potential hazards.
• Transport, handle, and manage construction materials, tools, and equipment.
• Assist in loading and unloading materials from trucks.
• Provide support to skilled workers such as Operators, Flaggers, etc.
• Maintain a clean and organized construction site.
• Properly dispose of waste and debris according to safety and environmental guidelines.
• Report any safety hazards, incidents, or issues promptly
• Maintain constant awareness of the construction site and surroundings, including equipment and worker safety.
• In-person attendance is required.
  
  

Other Required Duties And Responsibilities

• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and tolerate noise, odors, and exposure to construction-related elements.
• Capable of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and crouching for extended periods.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and 150 pounds with assistance.
• Must handle construction materials, tools, and equipment with manual dexterity.
• Work on uneven surfaces and in varying weather conditions.
• Periodically exposed to high noise levels, grease, dust, and chemicals (gasoline, diesel, etc.).
• Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
• Perform any other tasks or projects assigned by the team to support the department's goals.

• Ability to adapt to changing tasks and responsibilities based on project needs.
• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Willingness to learn, with a positive attitude, dependability, and strong teamwork.
• Represent The Gerken Companies to customers in a professional manner, supporting the company's goals.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members.
  
  

Education and Experience

• Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school is required.
• Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
• Prior experience operating screed on an asphalt paver is preferred.
• Experience in asphalt paving operations is required.
• Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment is required.
