Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots. Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.

Position Overview

The Driver / Laborer position includes operating a tack truck for an asphalt crew. On occasion employees will be required to work nights, and out of town. Additional duties include assisting on the patching crew. Exciting opportunity to perform multiple daily duties and earn above average pay. CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement required.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Shoveling, raking and any duties assigned by foreman.
  • May learn operation all types of asphalt paving equipment including; asphalt paver, screed, rollers, broom and skid steer.
  • Operates dump truck in safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, in the yard area and at various job sites to deliver materials.
  • Performs daily pre / post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines.
  • Checks fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls for safe operation.
  • Load and unload equipment or materials.
  • Monitor various gauges during operation of vehicle.
  • Maintain daily vehicle mileage logs.
  • Unrolls truck tarp to cover loads when required.
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor.
  • Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.
  • Must keep vehicle in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • None, some experience in related asphalt and road construction preferred.
  • Must maintain a CDL Class B with tanker and air brake endorsement.
  • Work Requirements

  • Must be 21 years in age or older.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in construction and paving.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations and construction sites.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and the exercise of independent judgement.
  • Valid drivers license

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • May require standing for extended periods of time.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Able to move / carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
