Approach Venture LLC in Hawthorne, CA is seeking an ASME Welding Technician to fabricate and weld high-pressure, high-temperature components for energy systems. You will read drawings, perform GTAW welding on stainless steel and high-alloy materials, and manage fabrication from prep to final assembly.

ASME Welding Technician – Build High-Performance Energy Systems

We are looking for an experienced ASME Welding Technician to support the fabrication and assembly of high-pressure, high-temperature mechanical systems. You will work directly with mechanical, fluid systems, and test engineers to fabricate pressure-rated piping, structural assemblies, and critical hardware used in the development and testing of next-generation energy technology. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in producing high-quality welds and working on complex hardware. You will have significant ownership over fabrication work, from interpreting engineering drawings and preparing materials through welding, inspection, and final assembly.

Job Duties

• Fabricate and weld high-pressure piping, pressure-containing components, and mechanical assemblies in accordance with applicable ASME codes and qualified welding procedures.
• Perform precision GTAW (TIG) welding on stainless steel, nickel-based alloys, and carbon steel, including open-root and internally purged welds.
• Interpret engineering drawings, piping isometrics, and weld symbols to prepare, fit, and assemble components for welding.
• Perform material preparation, joint beveling, cleaning, fit-up, and fixturing to ensure weld quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Monitor welding parameters, heat input, and interpass temperatures to maintain weld integrity and compliance with applicable procedures.
• Fabricate structural frames, equipment skids, mounting brackets, fixtures, and other hardware used in system development and testing.
• Support weld inspections and nondestructive examination, including visual inspection, liquid penetrant testing, and radiographic testing.
• Maintain accurate welding records, material traceability, and fabrication documentation for code-compliant assemblies.
• Work closely with engineering teams to identify fabrication challenges and recommend improvements to weld joint design, assembly methods, and manufacturability.
• Maintain welding equipment, tooling, and shop work areas to support safe and efficient fabrication activities.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional welding experience, including hands-on fabrication of ASME code-compliant components.
• Current or recent welder performance qualifications (WPQ) in accordance with ASME Section IX.
• Strong proficiency in GTAW (TIG) welding of stainless steel and high-alloy materials.
• Experience fabricating pressure piping, pressure vessels, or other pressure-containing hardware in accordance with ASME B31.1, B31.3, or Section VIII.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, piping isometrics, welding symbols, and fabrication specifications.
• Experience preparing and executing welds using qualified welding procedure specifications (WPS).
• Proficiency with common fabrication techniques, including cutting, grinding, joint preparation, fit-up, and basic machining.
• Working knowledge of welding safety practices, material handling, and quality requirements for pressure-rated hardware.

Preferred Experience

• Experience welding nickel-based superalloys, including Inconel, or other high-temperature materials.
• Background in aerospace, rocket propulsion, industrial energy, power generation, nuclear, or oil and gas fabrication.
• Experience with orbital welding, precision tube welding, or small-diameter pressure piping.
• Familiarity with welding procedure development, procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualification testing.
• Experience supporting nondestructive examination and inspection requirements for ASME code work.
• AWS Certified Welder credentials or coursework toward Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Additional proficiency in SMAW (stick) or GMAW (MIG) welding processes.
• Experience working in prototype fabrication, research and development, or early-stage hardware startup environments.

Compensation Details
