Job description

Join to apply for the ASME/AWS - Welder & Fitter role at North Shore Steel.

We are seeking an experienced Welder & Fitter for our company, Greens Bayou Pipe Mill, in east Houston. The Welder/Fitter repairs and builds piping systems using specialized welding equipment.

Responsibilities
  1. Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as SAW, MIG, FCAW, and SMAW.
  2. Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
  3. Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
  4. Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
  5. Repair pipe and other products by welding pieces and filling gaps.
  6. Repair flaws in pipe found by quality control after production in the Pipe Repair Station.
  7. Maintain equipment in a safe condition.
  8. Clean inside the pipe before welding, cut the area of the weld using a carbon arc, and prepare the proper equipment for welding.
  9. Maintain a clean and organized work area and keep equipment in good condition.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a welder, preferably in pipeline welding.
  • Experience with various welding equipment and procedures.
  • Current knowledge of ANSI, API, AWS, and ASME standards.
  • Ability to interpret schematics.
  • Knowledge and experience with all welding gear.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand or crouch for long periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various climates.
