Job summary

The Interpreter will adapt vocabulary to K-12 contexts, utilize signing space, and apply appropriate non-manual cues to convey meaning and tone.

Qualifications

• Interprets accurately between English and ASL/MCED forms
• Produces clear and readable signing
• Assesses language needs and selects appropriate signing mode
• Utilizes signing space and non-manual markers effectively
• Maintains vocabulary appropriate to K-12 context
• Follows ethics standards for interpreters in education

Responsibilities

• Interpret from written/spoken English into ASL or MCE for deaf/hard-of-hearing students
• Sign and cue smoothly during conversations and classroom activities
• Lip-read and articulate using clear voice when needed
• Assist teachers by identifying signs and devices to support communication
• Participate in IEP processes and provide language support as required
