Virtual Interpreter Role

As a remote ASL interpreter, you'll enable deaf and hard-of-hearing students to fully participate in general education classrooms. This position requires strong interpreting skills, educational knowledge, and the ability to work effectively in a virtual environment.

Typical Assignment Details

• 30-35 hours per week during regular school hours
• Interpreting for high school students mainstreamed in general education
• Supporting students across multiple academic subjects
• Schedule typically follows standard school day (approximately 7:45 AM - 2:15 PM)
• Potential for occasional after-school event interpretation
• Working with students who have varying levels of ASL proficiency

Key Responsibilities

• Provide real-time ASL interpretation of classroom instruction
• Interpret student-teacher and peer interactions
• Collaborate with educational team members
• Prepare for specialized academic vocabulary
• Adapt interpreting style to meet individual student needs
• Maintain professional boundaries while establishing rapport
• Follow educational interpreting best practices
• Document services as required
• Participate in educational planning meetings as needed

Required Credentials

• 3.5 or higher EIPA score (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment)
• Master's degree in relevant field
• Minimum two years of school-based interpreting experience
• Strong knowledge of educational terminology and concepts
• Proficiency with video conferencing platforms
• Reliable high-speed internet connection
• Professional home office environment
• Strong time management and organization skills

Preferred Qualifications

• 4.0 EIPA score or higher
