Location: Tucson/Pima County | Employee Status: Limited time appointment | Hours Per Week: 40 | Work Calendar: 10-Month | Pay Rate: $20.00/hr-$39.50/hr | Other: EIPA of 3.5 or AZ Interpreter License B, General or Legal.

Travel required.

Position Overview

Provides interpreting services in educational settings for deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind students, pursuant to the students’ IEP(s). The interpreter matches the language use of students, their peers, and instructors, and may interpret in various environments, facilitating communication and ensuring access to communication in the classroom and incidental language situations.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate as an IEP team member regarding language use and communication access.
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers and educational personnel about student communication needs.
Specialized Roles
  • Educational Interpreter/Transition Technician: Assist students academically or vocationally, including tutoring and transportation support.
  • Lead Educational Interpreter: Schedule interpreters, assist in hiring, evaluate staff, and support professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Experience working with children or adults in educational settings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher in Interpreting, ASL, or Deaf Studies.
  • Prior experience as an Educational Interpreter.
Licensing and Certification
  • Background check clearance.
  • Valid interpreting proficiency (EIPA 3.5+ or RID/NAD/BEI certification).
Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of educational policies, Deaf culture, and interpreting techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in ASL and English.
