Job summary

Metropolitan Community College (MCC) seeks an enthusiastic ASL Instructor to provide engaging, accessible non-credit courses focused on learning and using American Sign Language. The instructor will create a welcoming classroom where students build practical communication skills and gain appreciation of Deaf culture.

Teaching opportunities occur year-round across MCC locations, including Fremont and Blair. Most classes are held weeknights and weekends, with accommodations available for qualified

Qualifications

• Fluency or advanced proficiency in American Sign Language.
• Strong knowledge of ASL grammar, vocabulary, conversational conventions, and Deaf culture.
• Previous experience teaching ASL, working with ASL learners, or providing language instruction preferred.
• Experience working with diverse learners and varying levels of language proficiency.
• Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and classroom-management skills.
• Ability to create an engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
• Commitment to respecting Deaf culture and the diversity of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engaging, interactive, and accessible non-credit ASL courses.
• Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment where students build practical communication skills.
• Teach ASL to learners at varying levels, from beginner to advanced.
• Adapt to diverse schedules and multiple locations throughout the Metro area.
