Job summary

Tutor Me Education is seeking compassionate tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Sun Valley, CA. The role focuses on supporting a high school student who is intellectually disabled and hard of hearing, with ASL as the primary communication method.

You will work closely with teachers and service providers to implement IEP goals, adapt strategies, and help the student access classroom instruction and daily activities.

Qualifications

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required.
• Experience with students with intellectual disabilities and/or hearing impairments preferred.
• Ability to follow individualized plans and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a supportive demeanor.
• Bachelor's degree required; additional training in special education or interpreting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct 1:1 support to the student throughout the school day.
• Communicate effectively using ASL to ensure full access to instruction, routines, and social interactions.
• Assist with understanding academic tasks, following directions, and staying engaged.
• Support organization, behavior regulation, and transitions between activities.
• Collaborate with teachers and service providers to implement IEP goals.
• Adapt communication and instructional strategies to student needs.
• Assist with safe navigation of the school environment and provide supervision as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with policies.

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and ASL-fluent support staff member to work one-on-one with a high school student who is intellectually disabled and hard of hearing. The student requires consistent communication support, academic assistance, and daily living guidance within the school environment. The rate for the position is between $35 and $45.
