Job summary

Toolworks in San Francisco seeks an ASL-fluent Direct Support Professional (DSP) to help Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing adults become more independent in their communities. This full-time, in-person role focuses on person-centered care and empowerment.

As a DSP, you will communicate daily in ASL, guide participants through resources, and document progress. The position requires ASL proficiency, CPR/First Aid, ability to travel in SF, and background clearance; driver’s license may be needed for driving

Qualifications

• ASL fluency required for direct instruction and support.
• First Aid and CPR certification required (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the San Francisco community.
• Ability to pass program-required background clearances.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and automobile insurance (if driving).
• Preferred: 2+ years as caregiver/DSP/community support instructor with adults with disabilities.

• Assist with navigating public transportation and building community safety awareness.

What You'll Do:

• Communicate daily using American Sign Language (ASL) to support Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing participants.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Must have fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) at a level appropriate for providing direct instruction and support (proficiency may be assessed during the interview).
• Must have First Aid and CPR certification (or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire).
• Must have the ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the San Francisco community.
• Must have the ability to pass program-required background clearances.
• Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and automobile insurance (only required if taking on driving assignments).
• Preferred but not required: 2+ years of experience working as a caregiver, DSP, or community support instructor with adults with disabilities.
