Job summary

Bakersfield City School District is seeking an Educational Interpreter for the Deaf to provide interpreting and translation services to students with severe hearing impairments across various classrooms. The role supports curriculum access, life skills, and behavioral supports within inclusive settings.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, ESSE-I 4+ certification or approved equivalent, and ASL/SEE interpretation experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• ESSE-I level 4+ certification or approved equivalent.
• RID/ACCI or EIPA certification required or as applicable.
• Experience interpreting for hearing impaired persons, preferably students, using ASL or SEE.

Responsibilities

• Provide transliteration and interpretation services between students, staff and community.
• Translate and interpret instructional materials and class discussions for students.
• Tutor individuals or small groups to reinforce concepts; assist with classroom activities.
• Assist with student transportation and accessibility needs; ensure safety and independence.
• Support IEP goals and accommodations under supervision of teachers; assist with materials and equipment.
