As a Traffic Engineer, you will orchestrate the design and development of cutting-edge traffic components, ranging from network proxying and load balancing to security, routing, and quality of service. These components power Apple services at an unprecedented scale for hundreds of millions of users worldwide. In this role, you'll be instrumental in enhancing our network stack for improved ingress and egress functionality, helping architect the backbone of Apple. This position goes beyond coding. Minimum Qualifications

1. 4+ years of relevant industry experience
2. Professional expertise in software engineering
3. Skilled with one or more advanced programming language such as C, C++, Java or Go
4. Full product lifecycle ownership mindset (design → implementation → production)
5. Passionate about improving the team and partners you work with
6. BS degree or higher in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

1. Professional expertise in Traffic/Edge Engineering or Cloud Networking
2. Experience developing and deploying control-plane components for Envoy, including but not limited to EnvoyGateway and other proxy-related services.
3. Experience in writing performant and efficient Golang code in production environments.
4. Experience in Java, with a good understanding of object-oriented programming, multi-threading, and JVM performance tuning.
5. Experience with Kubernetes for orchestrating microservices, with knowledge of deployments, services, ingress controllers, and custom controllers.
6. Familiarity with traffic management patterns, service discovery, load balancing, observability, and security in modern distributed systems.
7. Ability to design RESTful APIs and gRPC services for integration with internal and external systems.
8. Strong communication skills with an ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams.
9. Experience in designing and maintaining large-scale systems that handle significant volumes of traffic across complex infrastructure setups.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $166,600 and $296,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
