Office of Student Services/Fletcher-Maynard Academy

Cambridge is a vibrant, diverse city and a central hub of innovation, home to Harvard and MIT. The Office of Student Services (OSS) supports students with disabilities and advanced learning needs through special education, 504 services, and advanced learning programs.

The Role

The ASD classroom teacher provides specially designed instruction to students on the autism spectrum, based on ABA principles. The program serves students in grades PK-12 requiring intensive support in areas like communication, social skills, behavior, and academics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect instruction in a positive environment
  • Employ research-based strategies and methodologies, focusing on sensory, language, cognition, and memory development
  • Teach social, pragmatic, and self-regulation skills as per IEPs using positive behavioral support techniques
  • Maintain and analyze student data, supervise paraprofessionals, and implement behavior management plans
  • Train and supervise paraprofessionals in ABA strategies, complete evaluations, and develop programming based on ABA principles
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and adapt as needed
  • Integrate technology into instruction to enhance understanding and engagement
  • Collaborate with general education staff and specialists, support inclusion, and develop communication plans for inclusive settings
  • Assist families in accessing community resources and involve them in educational planning
  • Conduct assessments, develop IEPs, chair team meetings, and complete documentation timely
  • Participate in staff development and maintain professional growth
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education
  • MA Certification in Moderate or Severe Special Needs
  • Minimum two years of experience with students on the autism spectrum
  • Knowledge of ABA, ABLLS-R, ACE Curriculum, AAC, PECs, TEACCH, and IEP processes
Salary

Based on the Cambridge Education Association Salary Schedule, with credit for prior teaching experience up to six years. Exceptional cases may have different considerations.
