Job summary

Hazel Park School District seeks a paraeducator to support students with ASD at Jardon Vocational School. The role emphasizes implementing individualized behavioral plans and maintaining confidentiality in a fast-paced educational setting.

You will work Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, for up to 37.5 hours per week, and must have reliable transportation to the school.

Qualifications

  • Pass WorkKeys or ETS assessment, or have two years of college with transcripts within fifteen days.
  • Ability to follow individualized behavioral plans under supervision.
  • Good attendance record expected.
  • Certified in CPI training or willingness to obtain and implement procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with teachers, students, parents and public.
  • Experience with ASD preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of students, staff and correspondence.
  • Perform assigned tasks promptly and professionally.
  • Act in best interests of students in absence of directive.
  • Deal with teachers, pupils, parents and public with tact and poise.

  • Location: Jardon Vocational School (High-Needs School)
SPECIFICS
  • Ten-month position, when students are in attendance.
  • Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. or 7 hours per day, with ½ hour unpaid lunch, not to exceed 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work schedule will be a normal schedule as provided in the H.P.P.A. Master Agreement.
  • Reliable transportation.
QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have experience, meet all state requirements and rate high in the following areas:

  • Will have successfully passed the WorkKeys Assessment, prior to July 10, 2017, or the current ETS Assessment, which replaced the WorkKeys Assessment on July 10, 2017 (per NCLB Guidelines), or have completed 2 years of college, official transcripts must be provided within fifteen days of being award this position. You must have the support documentation available to apply for this position.
  • Ability to follow an individualized behavioral plan, under the teacher/psychologist direction.
  • Good attendance record is expected.
  • Certified in the C.P.I. training and the ability to implement all stages of the training, including the restraint portion of Crisis Prevention, OR, willingness to take the training and implement procedures.
  • Work under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher
  • Ability to communicate with teachers, pupils, parents, and the public in a professional, friendly manner.
  • Ability and willingness to deal with challenging behaviors under the direction of the teacher with poise and professionalism.
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related information.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students with ASD, implementing individualized behavioral plans.
  • Ability to be flexible and take on a variety of assignments within the classroom and the building.
  • Ability to understand that each
  • student may work under an individualized plan that matches the student's learning level.
  • Knowledge of autism and experience and/or training in working with students with ASD is preferred.
DUTIES
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all students, staff, and administrative correspondence
  • Perform all assigned tasks in a prompt and professional manner
  • In the absence of immediate administration direction, act in the best interests of the students and the school district
  • Deal with teachers, pupils, parents, and the public with friendliness, tact, and poise
  • Perform other duties and assignments as may be directed by the program administrator or other assigned professional staff members.
