Job summary

Springfield Clinic is seeking an Ambulatory Surgery Center Registered Nurse—Operating Room to provide expert nursing care for surgical patients and deliver patient-centered care using the nursing process. You will circulate, scrub, assist anesthesia, maintain sterile technique, prepare instruments, and ensure safe recovery for patients.

You must graduate from an accredited nursing program, hold an Illinois RN license, and obtain CPR within 30 days and ACLS within six months.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
• 3–5 years of comparable nursing experience preferred.
• Illinois RN licensure required; CPR within 30 days of hire; ACLS within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• CIRCULATING: accompany patient to OR, assist anesthesiology team with induction, perform intraoperative nursing duties, maintain sterile technique, dispense medications, ensure sterile supplies, and accompany patient to recovery.
• SCRUB: prepare instruments, scrub-in, assist doctor, pass instruments, maintain sterile field, count sponges/needles, advise on equipment repair needs.
• Maintain the facility in a neat and orderly manner; restock supplies; check crash cart, defibrillator, and medications daily; transfer specimens to lab.
• Comply with incident reporting policies; adhere to OSHA and clinic trainings; provide excellent customer service; perform other duties as assigned.

The Ambulatory Surgery Center Registered Nurse- Operating Room is responsible for professional nursing care of the surgical patient and to achieve total patient centered care through use of the nursing process.

Job Relationships

Reports to the Manager of Operations, Operative Services

Principal Responsibilities

• CIRCULATING - Accompany the patient to the operating room, assume responsibility with other members of OR team for the comfort and safety of the patient. Assist the anesthesiology team with induction. Perform intraoperative nursing duties. Complete the intraoperative record. Observe and maintain sterile technique. Dispense medications as ordered by physician. Supply the operative team with sterile supplies as needed. Follow protocol of lab specimens and sponge/needle count as outlined in Policy and Procedure manual. Accompany the patient to recovery room reporting to RN.
• SCRUB - Prepare necessary instruments and supplies for the case. Scrub-in and assist the doctor during the operation. Pass instruments, maintain sterile field, safe disposal of blades and needles and count sponges/needles. Advise the supervisor or equipment repair needs.
• Maintain the facility in a neat and orderly manner at all times, requiring comprehensive knowledge of operating room set-up and equipment.
• Restock supplies as indicated daily.
• Check crash cart, defibrillator and medications daily, see that all equipment is present and in working order.
• Transfer specimens/cultures to lab.
• Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
• Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
• Provide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
• Three-five years of comparable nursing experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
• CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.
