Job summary

Springfield Clinic is seeking a Registered Nurse - ASC OR/ARD to provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care for surgical and endoscopic patients. You will conduct pre-operative assessments, deliver PACU care, and educate patients and families through discharge instructions.

Under the Nurse Manager-Operative Services, you will collaborate with the health team, maintain safety standards, and help ensure efficient patient flow and care quality throughout the surgical pathway.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
• 3–5 years of comparable nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and prepare patients for surgery, perform pre-operative assessments and document findings.
• Provide post-anesthesia care per Phase I/II protocols and monitor patient status.
• Administer prescribed medications and manage IV therapy as required.
• Discharge patients with appropriate home instructions and education materials.
• Maintain a clean, orderly environment and ensure equipment and crash carts are ready for use.

Job description

The Registered Nurse - ASC OR/ARD is responsible for professional nursing care of the surgical or endoscopic patient and to achieve total patient centered care through use of the nursing process.

Job Relationships

Reports to the Nurse Manager-Operative Services

Principal Responsibilities

• Nurses will be cross-trained to work other areas in the facility utilizing those nursing skills and techniques necessary to meet the patients' needs and provide quality care.
• Annual competencies for specific working area must be completed within designated month.
• ADMISSION - Greet patient and instruct in changing into appropriate attire. Complete pre-operative assessment, document on appropriate chart forms and administer pre-op orders (i.e. medications, IV's). Provide pre-operative teaching to patients and significant others. Consult with other members of the health care team members regarding patient care.
• POST-ANESTHESIA CARE NURSE - Assess and monitor the patient during Phase I Recovery. Complete applicable records. Administer medications as ordered. Ready the carts and restock supplies as needed. Transfer patient to Phase II Recovery when sufficiently recovered from anesthesia following the protocol.
• DISCHARGE - Assess and monitor the patient during Phase II Recovery. Administer medications as ordered. Complete necessary chart forms. Assist patient in preparing for discharge and give home instructions with patient education materials. Discharge the patient per orders of the surgeon to a responsible person, following the guidelines as written in the Policy and Procedure Manual.
• Maintain the facility in a neat and orderly manner at all times.
• Restock supplies as indicated daily.
• Check crash cart, defibrillator and medications daily, see that all equipment is present and in working order.
• Complete post-op phone calls as needed.
• Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
• Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
• Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
• Three to five (3-5) years of comparable nursing experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates

• Licensure as an RN in the State of Illinois.
• PALS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.
• ACLS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.
• CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire
