Job description

Supports patient care in all areas of the facility according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the facility. Responsible for obtaining necessary equipment and supplies for ASC procedures with management approval. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate and approved vendors. Maintains par inventory focusing on adequate volume and cost control. Monitors the surgery schedule and responds to changes to meet patient needs. Prepares purchase orders for approval and reviews all deliveries for accuracy. Ensures smooth communication flow with accounts payable, the materials department at the main campus, and the JSASC Leadership Team. Maintains records and logs for consignment items, implants, and purchase orders. Assists with contract negotiations. Manages daily, weekly, and annual inventory of supplies and interacts with vendors for quality and cost control. Provides a safe environment for patients and staff, modeling the facility care philosophy by integrating quality into daily work habits and treating all customers and peers with respect and consideration.

Essential Functions:

  1. Obtains necessary equipment and supplies used for procedures at the ASC.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes approved vendors.
  3. Maintains par inventory with focus on volume and cost control.
  4. Monitors schedule and responds to changes to meet patient needs.
  5. Advises relief or others responsible for patient care regarding patient status.
  6. Checks for outdated items and ensures stock rotation to minimize waste.
  7. Ensures smooth communication flow.
  8. Maintains records and logs for consignment items, implants, biologicals, and sterile processing.
  9. Assists in maintaining linen inventory and accurate perpetual inventory of supplies.
  10. Handles specimens appropriately.
  11. Provides a safe environment for patients and team members.
  12. Maintains infection control guidelines.
  13. Creates, maintains, and monitors a sterile field.
  14. Coordinates with JSASC Leadership Team and vendors for evaluation of new products or services.
  15. Assembles supplies and equipment for procedures based on physicians' preference cards.
  16. Inspects equipment for proper functioning.
  17. Follows aseptic principles and AORN guidelines for procedures.
  18. Reports and acts on any breaches in sterile technique.
  19. Properly cares for, cleans, sterilizes, and packages instruments.
  20. Maintains adequate supplies in the OR for procedures.
  21. Stores and stocks supplies.
  22. Updates and maintains preference cards.
  23. Documents patient care per policy.
  24. Assists physicians according to AORN and SGNA standards.
  25. Operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and other processing equipment correctly.
  26. Performs biological and chemical monitoring.
  27. Tests and logs sterilization and processing data.
  28. Performs accurate sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
  29. Uses knowledge of anatomy and physiology for positioning and prepping.
  30. Labels medications appropriately onto the sterile field.
  31. Places orders promptly.
  32. Participates in the Time Out process with OR team members.
  33. Completes scheduled educational requirements.
  34. Cross-trains in all OR specialty cases, endoscopy, and sterile processing.
  35. Attends department meetings regularly.
  36. Collects data for performance improvement activities.
