- PAT – Assist with surgery chart prep, pre-admission phone calls and interviews, communicate with Anesthesia regarding patient health history requiring review for surgery, obtain medical records and cardiac testing results as needed for review, order pre-op testing such as labs/EKG and MRSA cultures as needed, early communication with clinical and ASC surgery scheduling staff regarding scheduling discrepancies, retrieve phone messages and return patient calls, communicate patient questions/needs to clinical staff as needed.
- Pre/Post – May include landing patient in pre-op bay, applying monitors to patients, restocking bays, assistance with bed turnover, preparing patients for discharge including assisting patients with getting dressed, IV removal, possible application of DME, transport of patient to x-ray as needed, transport of patient to first floor for pickup, assistance stocking materials, entering surgery times/data into surgical health record system (Vision), working closely with nursing staff for direction and other assignments as needed.
- May include other duties as needed per department, including but not limited to assisting ASC Business Office with various administrative tasks. The ability to assist the team in pre and post operative areas, as well as in the business office is a requirement of the position.
Requirements
- Must have current MA certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two years previous experience in acute care or medical office setting preferred.
- Current BLS certification, or able to obtain within six months.
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology.
- Previous experience with EHR required.
- Basic computer skills to input and retrieve clinical information.
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and effective teamwork are essential qualities of the position.
- The ability to gather, analyze, and interpret basic medical information is required.
Summary
The ASC MA/Preadmission Testing (PAT) position helps coordinate pre-admissions for elective surgical patients. The primary role of this position is to collect and/or verify physical and medical history information, complete relevant documentation, and help educate patients about their upcoming surgical experience. This position requires professional communication with patients, clinic staff, and the medical team of the surgery center including the anesthesia team, following surgery center standards and protocol.
