Job summary

Somerset Council is hiring to lead and manage its Asbestos team within the Somerset Scientific Services. You will direct surveys, coordinate staff, and ensure adherence to policy and legislation while expanding external services to schools and public bodies.

The role involves site visits, potential working at height, some homeworking, and urgent incident responses. A minimum of 5 years in asbestos management is required, with strong leadership and compliance expertise.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years proven asbestos management experience.
• Experience managing a team and contractors.
• Knowledge of UKAS requirements and HSE guidance.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day management and technical support to the asbestos team.
• Oversee survey delivery and ensure compliance with policy and legislation.
• Respond to asbestos incidents and provide guidance on actions.
