Job summary

The Joan Mitchell Center invites applications for the Artist-Centered Program Manager role. You will oversee residency administration, public programming, and serve as the primary resource for artists, reporting to the Director and coordinating with the Joan Mitchell Foundation team in New York.

You will supervise staff, manage AIR cycles, develop collaborations, monitor budgets, and document programs for dissemination. Weekend or evening duties may be required to support events and artist needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in administration; no less than 5 years.
  • Minimum 2 years managerial and supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with artists; knowledge of artist support locally and nationally.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills.
  • Proficient with Mac systems; MS Office and Zoom.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Center’s AIR program, including policies, scheduling, contracts, and on-site support.
  • Acts as secondary site supervisor and main contact for staff, AIRs, and vendors.
  • Facilitate AIR networking and public programming with communities and arts professionals.
  • Implements an annual AIR residency application cycle with outreach and review; includes materials and jury selection.
  • Coordinates with Foundation staff to ensure smooth program implementation, event logistics, and safety procedures.
  • Conducts program evaluation and reports via surveys and interviews; collects feedback from AIRs and constituents.
  • Documents programs and promotes AIRs and the Center in print and digital formats.
  • Collaborates with the Foundation to develop joint programs and alumni engagement.
