Artificial Intelligence Integrator (Wargaming)

The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) supports a diverse range of customers across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID offers analytical and programmatic capabilities to aid decision-making on complex issues.

Within JOID, SPA's NATO Allied Command Transformation Group focuses on capability development, portfolio and project management, quality control, cost analysis, standardization, reporting, software solutions, information management, and requirements capture throughout the lifecycle from definition to realization and use.

We seek an Artificial Intelligence Integrator (Wargaming) to support onsite activities at HQ SACT in Norfolk, VA.

Responsibilities

Data Exploitation and AI are key to NATO’s digital transformation, enabling faster, data-driven decisions and operational efficiency. NATO’s command dedicated to future warfare explores, develops, and integrates new technologies into military capabilities, with wargaming playing a critical role in planning and decision-making. ACT aims to enhance NATO’s wargaming by integrating AI, particularly through the development of a roadmap for AI integration, supporting scenario development, real-time analytics, and human-machine teaming.

The AI Integrator will be part of the Data Science and AI Team, collaborating with experts to identify AI opportunities in wargaming, support AI integration efforts, develop supplementary materials, implement data analysis methods, and ensure data security. Responsibilities include designing experiments, documenting findings, developing automation tools, maintaining documentation, and participating in professional development activities. Travel up to 30 days per year may be required.

Qualifications
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in Data Science, ML, or AI within the last 8 years
  • 3+ years integrating AI into practical applications, preferably in simulation or wargaming
  • Proficiency with AI/ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn
  • Experience with generative AI models, including LLMs like GPT-3 or GPT-4
  • 3+ years in data analysis and visualization tools such as Python, R, Tableau, PowerBI
  • Understanding of wargaming principles and military strategic planning
  • Experience providing technical guidance to diverse teams
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven project management and experimental design skills
  • Knowledge of data security and responsible AI principles
  • Willingness to work onsite as needed
