Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking an Art Therapist at Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights to support patients with social, psychological, and physical challenges through art-based interventions.

You will work with an interdisciplinary team to create and implement comprehensive care plans, facilitate group and individual sessions, and help patients express themselves, cope, and engage more fully in treatment.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from an AATA-accredited program.
  • LPAT licensure or equivalent state license required.
  • ATR-BC board certification required within hire period.
  • De-escalation training to be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • BLS certification via American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum one year of art therapy experience in an inpatient hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide group and individual art therapy sessions to patients across units.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to develop a comprehensive care plan.
  • Assist patients in coping skills development and self-expression through art.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and document observations within prescribed time frames.
  • Attend care team meetings and adhere to program policies and procedures.

Education

Master’s Degree in Art Therapy (AATA)
Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) – Board Certification/State License
Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC) – Board Certification
De-escalation training (within 90 days of hire)
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (within 90 days)
One year of Art Therapy experience in inpatient hospital setting

As an Art Therapist, you will use art media,imagesand the creative process toassistpatients with social,psychologicaland physical challenges. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive plan of care and apply yourexpertiseto help patients develop coping skills, express themselves in alternative ways, increase socialization, enhance sensorimotor coordination and problem-solving abilities, reduce problematicbehaviorsand improve treatment compliance.

A caregiver in this role works 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. 1 weekend per month is required (Saturday and Sunday).

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Use art media,imagesand the creative art process toassistpatients with social,psychologicaland physical difficulties.

  • Work with the interdisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive plan of care for the patient.

  • Useexpertisetoassistpatients in a variety of areas.

  • Provide group and individual art therapy sessions to patientsonvarious units within the main campus hospital.

  • Evaluate patient’s treatment needs,abilitiesand resources.

  • Maintain confidentiality of patients, staff and hospital respectingpatients’rights and dignity.

  • Complete routine paperwork within prescribedtime framesand accurately document all pertinent and meaningful observations and information onappropriate forms.

  • Attend andparticipatein designated plans for care team meetings concerning the patient and family, asappropriate.

  • Adhere to general expectations for all employees in order that the program functions in an effective manner to meet the treatment needs of the patient.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Master’s Degree in Art Therapyfrom a College or University Program accredited by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA)

  • Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) through the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board

  • Registered Art Therapist with Board Certification (ATR-BC) through the Art Therapy Credentials Board with LPAT obtained within the first90 daysof hire

  • Maintain de-escalation training, WELLE certification obtained within the first90 daysof hire

  • Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification via American Heart Association certification training obtained within the first90 daysof hire

  • One year of experience in Art Therapy services in an inpatient hospital setting

  • Consideration will be made for time spent in practicum

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Niche art, music, OT experience
