Job summary

Applewood Centers is seeking an Art Therapist to facilitate skills and expressive/art therapy groups and provide care coordination for patients. The role includes developing curricula and leading sessions using art, media, imagery, and creative processes to address social, emotional, and psychological challenges within the milieu.

The position requires a Master’s degree in relevant fields and LPAT or ATR-BC licensure, with experience in serving children, adolescents, and families.

Qualifications

  • Requires Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or therapy.
  • Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) or ATR-BC eligibility or licensure is required.
  • Strong knowledge of child/adolescent development, psychology, and trauma.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and maintain ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional clinical services and develop group curricula.
  • Facilitate expressive/art therapy groups for patients.
  • Perform psychosocial and expressive therapy assessments.
  • Create and edit individualized treatment plans in EMR.
  • Coordinate care, aftercare planning, and case management.
  • Provide crisis intervention and family/individual therapy.
  • Support intake processes and collaborate with the treatment team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy required.
  2. Licensure: Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) through the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board OR Registered Art Therapist with Board Certification (ATR-BC).
  3. Skills/Competencies:
  4. Basic knowledge of child and adolescent development, human sexuality, family dysfunction, psychology, sociology, behavior theory and trauma.
  5. Pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Curriculum by passing the written exam, attending the full duration of training, participating and passing the required role plays, and demonstrating the full competencies up to and including the holds required.
  6. Openness to multi-disciplinary and eclectic approaches to treatment.
  7. Core Expertise: Possesses skill, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential duties of their role; keeps knowledge up to date.
  8. Cultural Competency: Demonstrates awareness, sensitivity and skills in working professionally with diverse individuals, groups and communities who represent various cultural and personal background and characteristics.
  9. Interpersonal Communication: Communicates clearly using verbal, nonverbal, and written skills in a professional context; demonstrates clear understanding and use of professional language.

    AGENCY SUMMARY:
    Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Art Therapist serves to facilitate skills and expressive/art therapy groups and provide care coordination for patients. Specifically, the Art Therapist develops curriculum, prepares and facilitates daily skills and expressive therapy groups using art, media, imagery, and the creative process to help patients address social, emotional, psychological, and physical challenges in the milieu. Additionally, the Art Therapist educates and supports staff in understanding and facilitating groups as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Provide professional clinical services, including, but not limited to:
  2. Develop, implement and maintain skills group and expressive/art therapy group curriculum;
  3. Facilitate group services utilizing Art Therapy interventions;
  4. Performpsychosocial assessments and expressive therapy assessments;
  5. Conduct treatment planning including creating and editing individualized treatment plans in the electronic medical record;
  6. Provide care coordination, after care planning and case management services to assigned patients;
  7. Provide crisis intervention;
  8. Conduct family and individual therapy; and
  9. Cross train to facilitate the intake process, including concurrent review process.
  10. Collaborate with other treatment team members regarding treatment planning, progress, and ongoing needs in a timely and consistent manner.
  11. Contact service providers and schools to obtain collateral information and provide mental health updates on current patients to increase continuity of care amongst professionals.
  12. Participate in team discussions around assessments, discharge planning, care coordination and family communication.
  13. Provides assistance and back up support to the inpatient social workers, Intake and other aspects of the inpatient program, as directed.
  14. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
OTHER DUTIES:
  1. Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going training.
  2. All required trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
  3. Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment. All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.
  4. Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.
  5. Other duties as assigned by management.
