I. Position Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Expressive Therapy Leader, performs diversified duties including the evaluation and treatment of patients with identified psychosocial problems. Participates in all departmental projects that supports patients quality of life utilizing various art based techniques. Collaborates with other Center staff at patient care meetings, conferences, and clinics and with the Supervisor in the training of student interns. This position is shared between Dedham and Roslindale campuses.

I. Position Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Expressive Therapy Leader, performs diversified duties including the evaluation and treatment of patients with identified psychosocial problems. Participates in all departmental projects that supports patients quality of life utilizing various art based techniques. Collaborates with other Center staff at patient care meetings, conferences, and clinics and with the Supervisor in the training of student interns. This position is shared between Dedham and Roslindale campuses.
II. Position Responsibilities
- Develops treatment plans, establishes priorities for treatment and facilitates treatment of patient problems, such as stress management, anxiety, agitation, and depression, via referral from a physician or a licensed social worker, nurse or therapist.
- Develops appropriate short and long-term treatment goals/plans involving the use of Art Therapy techniques. Assesses progress of patient’s treatment, writes progress notes and discharge summaries, prepares monthly statistics summary of activity and other required records and reports, according to the Departmental Standards of Practice, Policies, and procedures.
- Works collaboratively with other HRC staff to provide consultation toward the goal of determining the most productive treatment plan for each patient. Participates in various HRC meetings, such as Unit Clinical Conferences and Care plan Meetings. Presents in-service programs for designated staff to increase understanding of Expressive Therapy, its services, goals, therapeutic methodology, and interfaces with the clinical team.
- Participates in educational programs within and outside the Center, as directed, to maintain and update personal professional knowledge and skills. Meets with the Supervisor on a regular basis to review activities, tools, and techniques, and discuss problem areas. Assists in coordination, supervision, and evaluation of graduate student placements and volunteers. Participates in relevant projects pertaining to expressive Therapy and geriatric mental health research.
- Performs other related duties as required and as responsibilities dictate.
III. Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of experience in the field of Art Therapy
- Masters degree from accredited University. Eligibility for the National Registration in Art Therapy and Mental Health Counseling (Completed practicum and internship.)
- Demonstrates proficiency in Group Leadership and experience working with Geriatric population
- Demonstrates proficiency in visual Art modalities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
IV. Physical Requirements
- Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances, which may include exposure to unpleasant odors, sights, and sounds.
- Push wheel chairs on flat surface
- Gloves and masks worn occasionally.
- Standing, walking, and sitting.
- Transporting, and assisting with transferring residents.
- Lifting supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs.
- Some reaching, stooping, squatting, bending, kneeling and crouching
- Excellent ability to communicate verbally
- Good hearing and vision
- Sufficient alertness and awareness for the safety of others.
