Job Description
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: The Art Teacher is an energetic and flexible employee eager to work in a therapeutic day school with a high-needs population. This position provides instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment consistent with the rules and regulations of the Central Massachusetts Collaborative. Applicants should be able to engage and motivate students, have effective classroom management strategies, and possess a love and joy for art.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and implement various art experiences to support the educational growth and development of the targeted student population.
- Develop effective classroom presentation techniques and review, correct, and reinforce instructional lessons to enhance learning and retention.
- Plan a balanced art program and organize daily class time to accomplish preparation, rehearsal, and instruction within the allotted time.
- Develop effective techniques for academic assessment and management of art projects.
- Align instruction with MA Curriculum Frameworks.
- Differentiate the art curriculum to meet the needs of individual students and the student body.
- Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
- Maintain care and responsibility for school-owned art materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
- Collaborate with program directors and staff to provide art programs and displays for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and seasonal programs.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during art classes.
- Address and handle students with behavioral issues that may occur during art class.
- Maintain data and all required documentation.
- Supervise para-professionals who attend art classes with students.
- Complete CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention training upon hire and maintain certification.
- Demonstrate sound judgments and decisions aligned with school regulations and philosophy, promote a positive school climate that fosters high student expectations, and employ appropriate strategies for multiple learning styles.
- Demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to deal with people professionally.
- Able to reach, grasp, and handle objects using upper extremities and lift and carry objects up to 45 pounds.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the director.

Qualifications
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate MA Teacher’s Certification.
- Advanced educational preparation in the discipline or area of certification.
- Experience in the discipline or area of certification.
- Ability to work with artists at all skill levels.
- Willingness to promote and sustain a culture of art in and among the school community.
- WORK SCHEDULE: 183 days
- WORK HOURS: 7.5 hours per day and additional hours as outlined in the CBA.
- SALARY: Commensurate with experience and degree of education as outlined in the CBA.
- Bachelor degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
