Job summary

Getty is seeking an Associate Bibliographer (Collection Development Librarian III) for the GRI Library. The role focuses on ongoing development of the general library collections, requiring a strong foundation in art history and bibliographic work, with collaboration across GRI librarians, curators, and stakeholders worldwide.

The position involves managing selection, assessment, budgeting, and policy refinement, while representing Getty in professional networks and external partnerships,

Qualifications

• Reading/bibliographic knowledge of at least 2 foreign languages.
• Solid knowledge of bibliographic metadata structure and principles.
• Knowledge of library management systems and acquisitions workflows.
• Experience in collection development, budgeting, and donor/vendor relations.

Responsibilities

• Determine ongoing bibliographic scope and coverage for a wide range of art topics with stakeholders.
• Review incoming material and approval plans for relevance.
• Refine profiles and establish new approval plans or acquisitions methods.
• Track expenditures and maximize the acquisitions budget.
• Cultivate vendor and donor relationships globally.
• Select titles outside current plans within budget and scope.
• Revise the Library Collection Development policy as priorities shift.
• Provide content for Getty communication channels and social media outlets.
• Engage in professional organizations and explore new collection development models.
• Promote Getty’s welcoming environment.
