Job summary

The Parish School in Houston, TX invites applications for a Substitute- Art Lead (Leave Coverage) for early childhood and elementary students. This temporary role runs 9/21 through about 10/16 with daily school hours and a Friday half-day schedule.

You will design and lead art lessons aligned to language and learning goals, collaborating with lead teachers, therapists and staff to support growth, creativity and a safe, engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Creates art lessons and leads art classes through art-based curriculum to support language and learning goals for individual students.
• Plans instruction to achieve specific objectives based upon student need, established curriculum, and consultation with lead teachers/therapists.
• Implements instructional techniques to encourage and motivate students.
• Assesses student’s needs as they develop, implementing and evaluating daily lesson plans.
• Modifies and individualizes instruction of program to meet the needs of each child.
• Collaborates and consults with school teams to assist each student.

Work Location: The Parish School (Private School)

Start Date: ASAP – Leave coverage starting 9/21 through approximately 10/16.

Position: Temporary Position, Opportunity for continued substitution as needed following leave coverage.

Schedule: Monday through Thursday: 7:30am to 3:30pm and Friday: 7:30am to 12:30pm.

The Art Educator leads weekly art education that allow students to interact with a variety of materials that encourage self-expression and appreciation of the artistic process at the early childhood and elementary levels. Art groups incorporate a variety of different mediums that facilitate growth and learning, including drawing, painting, sculpting and mixed media exploration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Creates art lessons and leads art classes through art-based curriculum to support language and learning goals for individual students.
• Plans instruction to achieve specific objectives based upon student need, established curriculum, and consultation with lead teachers/therapists.
• Implements instructional techniques to encourage and motivate students.
• Assess student’s needs as the develop, implementing and evaluating daily lesson plans.
• Modifies and individualizes instruction of program to meet the needs of each child.
• Utilizes and implements appropriate classroom management techniques to ensure student safety, and to create a productive and supportive learning environment that integrates academic and social development for every student.
• Maintains a calendar of activities and community events that provides a variety of student centered experiences to learn about a variety of art.
• Collaborates and consults with the Integrates Arts and Sciences team, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, and mental health counselors to assts each student
