Job summary

The Meadowlands Area YMCA is seeking a qualified Art Instructor to teach our art classes in photography, painting, cartoons, and mixed media. You’ll manage the classroom and create a safe, engaging environment for participants.

Required are 21+ years of age, CPR/First Aid/AED and Child Abuse prevention training within 90 days of hire, plus at least 1 year of art teaching experience. Hours include weekday, evenings and some weekend classes with pay $18–$25 per hour.

Qualifications

• 21+ years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse prevention training within 90 days of hire.
• Proven experience teaching at least one specialty topic such as painting, pottery, mixed media or drawing.
• At least 1 year experience teaching art classes.

Responsibilities

• Teach art classes including photography, painting, cartoons and mixed media.
• Maintain classroom safety and proper behavior.
• Keep the classroom organized and supplies in order.
• Communicate lesson plans and activities with the supervisor.
• Coordinate with caregivers to support child development and growth.

Located in Bergen County, New Jersey we are in the shadows of the Meadowlands Sports Complex (home to the NY Giants, NY Jets and the 2014 Super Bowl) and right outside of New York City. It is an exciting time in our 96 year history - our YMCA is developing an 83,000 square feet building into our first full facility YMCA.POSITION SUMMARY:The Meadowlands Area YMCA is seeking qualified individuals who will be responsible for teaching our Art classes including but not limited to photography, painting, cartoons, and mixed media. The Art Instructor will also be responsible for classroom managementQUALIFICATIONS:21+ years of ageCPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse prevention training within 90 days of hireProven experience teaching at least one specialty topic including but not limited to; painting, pottery, mixed media, drawingAt least 1 year experience teaching art classesOutgoing, energetic, and engagingESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Keep classroom in same condition as you found it.Ensure the health, safety, and well being of participants in enrichment programs, by providing close supervision of all activities.Be in assigned area with all equipment, when needed.Create an atmosphere where all participants can have fun, are safe and learn.Maintain accurate program documentation (incident, accident and behavior reports, attendance and sign-in / sign-out sheets).Keep immediate supervisor informed of any concerns or problems regarding program participants or facilities.Maintain an organized work space, by taking responsibility for the upkeep of supplies, materials, and program rooms.Regularly communicate with Assistant Program Director to discuss lesson plans and activities, to ensure a good working relationship.Communicate to caregivers to promote an understanding of the growth and development of their child.Work cooperatively with professional staff and other departments.Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings and special events.All other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.SUPERVISOR: Associate Program DirectorHOURS: weekday, evenings, and weekend class schedulesCompensation Package:Salary Range - $18-$25 per hour
