The Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) provides high-quality, patient-centered medical care within their scope of practice in accordance with RCW 18.79.250 and applicable organizational policies. This position includes responsibility for managing an assigned panel of patients, including ongoing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, preventive care, and coordination of care.

The Nurse Practitioner’s patient panel and clinical responsibilities may include primary care, Express Care, and Palliative Care patients, based on patient needs, clinic coverage, and organizational priorities. The provider may be asked to support same-day and acute care needs within Express Care, as well as provide care to Palliative Care patients, including symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, patient and family education, and coordination with interdisciplinary care teams.

Work hours and scheduling may be flexible based on the needs of the assigned patient panel, Express Care coverage, Palliative Care responsibilities, and overall clinic operations.

The Nurse Practitioner demonstrates safe clinical decision-making, provides clinically competent and compassionate care, and collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, care coordinators, and other departments throughout the organization to promote continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.

The Nurse Practitioner provides education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, preventive care, symptom management, and recommendations to improve or maintain health and quality of life.

The Nurse Practitioner demonstrates excellence in customer service in interactions with patients, families, coworkers, and other customers and provides care in a professional, ethical, knowledgeable, and compassionate manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Klickitat Valley Health (KVH).

QualificationsMinimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):Education / Licensure:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an active/current RN license in Washington State.
  • Master’s or Doctoral Degree from an accredited school recognized by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Current unrestricted registration/license in Washington State as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nursing is preferred.
  • Current BLS and ACLS/PALS certifications required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
  • Reviews data/information such as vital signs, height, and weight measurements, etc., obtained from the patient as part of the clinic visit.
  • Obtains patient’s health history (history and physical); performs various patient examinations/ physical assessments such as: pap tests, breast exams, general physicals, wellness exams, etc. (including biological, social, and psychological needs); uses the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age-specific needs and provides age-specific treatment and care.
  • Diagnoses, treats, and plans appropriate health care plan for patients (based on scope of practice) and establishes goals/objectives related to the plan of care based on the unique needs of the patient; assesses patient’s response to treatment and care; consults with and/or refers patients to other physicians/providers and/or outside agencies/facilities as required.
  • Diagnoses and treats acute/episodic minor illnesses (respiratory illnesses, ear and throat, gastrointestinal, genital urinary infections, dermatology, etc.) and other injuries.
  • Screens for chronic illnesses and monitors ongoing treatment and therapy for patients with stable chronic illnesses, providing pharmacological and counseling interventions.
  • Performs a variety of procedures in the care of the patient, including but not limited to: suturing, cauterizing, skin biopsy, liquid nitrogen treatment, etc.
  • Determines the need for, orders, and interprets X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, EKGs/ECGs, mammograms, diagnostic ultrasounds, etc., as needed.
  • Develops, initiates, and maintains a preventative health monitoring program (cholesterol tests, blood pressure tests, diabetic screens, etc.) to assist patients with wellness care.
  • Follows KVH procedures for providing patient care and documentation.
  • Completes patient program and billing records promptly and in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations, or requirements that may be set forth by contract. Orders/performs laboratory procedures and interprets lab test results for the patient.
  • Accurately records patient information and clinical data (chief complaint, symptoms, medical condition, history, allergies, immunizations, etc.) in the electronic medical record (EMR) to maintain the paperless charting system of the clinic.
  • Prescribes and/or provides medications, injections/vaccines, etc, as needed within the scope of practice.
  • Provides patient education to facilitate recovery, self-care, health maintenance, health promotion, and wellness; documents patient teaching, tools used, and patient understanding.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
