Job summary

Southwire Company, LLC is seeking an Operator, Armoring to process steel/aluminum MC Cable, ensuring safety, quality and production efficiency.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading raw material, following production orders, operating controls, coordinating with teammates, and maintaining 5S and safety practices. Must read/write English; high school diploma required; lifting up to 45 lbs. Opportunities for growth within a leading North American wire and cable producer.

• Train to become qualified in operation, coordinating tasks to maximize production safely.
• Learn to interact with computer controls to operate machine/work cell.
• Coordinate material handling with other operators to ensure continuous production.
• Maintain material levels for all levels of operation and load/unload materials as needed.
• Work under supervision and communicate with supervisor and peers through reports.

Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Operator, Armoring, is a medium skill role will process steel/aluminum MC Cable to achieve safety, quality and efficiency requirements. Initial duties will include but are not limited to loading and unloading raw material and correctly tagging material.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Must read, write, and speak English; Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time
Operator must be able lift up to 45 lbs
Operator must be able to follow instructions
Operator must be able to interpret production orders
Any other job duties as assigned

PRIMARY JOB TASKS:
Operator should be training to qualify in the operation, coordinating several tasks in such a manner to maximize production while safely maintaining specific procedures and quality of steel/aluminum MC Cable
Operator must learn to make judgements concerning quality of the steel/aluminum MC Cable
Operator will learn to interact with computer controls to operate machine/work cell
Operator will learn to interact with control panels to pinpoint and eliminate various operating problems
Operator will learn to coordinate material handling, production with other operators on the line to ensure a continuous production process
Operator will learn to maintain material levels for all levels of operation
Operator will be responsible for loading and unloading of raw materials and finished goods
Must be able to work under supervision and maintain ongoing communication with the supervisor and peers through verbal instruction and reports
Identify scrap and place into designated scrap areas

CROSS TRAINING:
Will be required to cross-train on equipment within your identified workgroup at your facility
Once trained in more complex jobs, may be required tofill the position in the event of absence or vacancy
Will be required to rotate on a set frequency within your workgroup to maintain skill proficiency

QUALITY:
Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to help guide all daily quality activities
Do not release products until all quality checks have been passed
Immediately report quality issues to the supervisor, department manager, or quality manager

SAFETY:
Working safely is a condition of employment
Followall company environmental rules/procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact
Follow all safety procedures and rules including safe material handling
Properly wear all required PPE
Review and know all Job Hazard Analyses for proper job sequence and hazards associated with the jobs assigned to do
Review and know all Safety Data Sheets for the jobs assigned to do
Maintain all work areas to 5S standards
Perform pre-operation safety inspection and hazard analysis
Responsible to observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Physical activity associated with daily performance of this job include: balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking and sitting
Must be able to work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate-control
Operator may be exposed to high levels of noise and a dusty environment
Operator may be exposed to gaseous lift fumes
Operator may be exposed to hazardous material
