Job summary

Meritus Solutions Group seeks Armed Protective Security Officers (PSO) to protect federal buildings in Toledo and surrounding areas. Start as part-time with full-time shifts awarded by seniority as they become available. Training covers classroom, range, and screening with Columbus-based sessions.

Position requires OPOTA and Ohio Armed Security License, 2+ years in security or related fields, U.S. citizenship, clean background, and fluency in English.

Qualifications

• Valid Ohio Armed Security License (issued by the State of Ohio).
• OPOTA Certification (required).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in security, military, or law enforcement.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a valid Social Security card.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Clean criminal background (no felonies or DV/assault convictions).
• Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English.

Armed Protective Security Officer (PSO)

Location: Toledo and surrounding areas (to include Sandusky)

All PSOs start off as part time. You are awarded a full time shift based on your seniority when a full time shift bid comes open.

Currently, the only full time shift bid available in Mon-Fri in Sandusky

Position Overview

Armed Protective Security Officers (PSOs) provide security services at designated federal buildings and installations under the Federal Protective Service (FPS). This is a stable, weekday position with consistent hours and paid holidays.

PSOs are responsible for safeguarding federal property, personnel, and visitors by maintaining a secure environment and controlling access to government facilities.

Licensing & Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all requirements below to be considered:

• Valid Ohio Armed Security License (issued by the State of Ohio)
• OPOTA Certification (required) – applicants without OPOTA should not apply
• Minimum 2 years of experience in one of the following:
• Security
• Military
• Law enforcement
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a valid Social Security card
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license
• Clean criminal background (no felonies or domestic violence/assault convictions)
• Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English

All applicants must successfully pass:

• Federal background investigation (may take up to 3 months)
• Drug screening (company-paid)
• Medical evaluation (company-paid)

Required Certifications

• OPOTA (mandatory)
• CPR / First Aid / AED

Training Requirements

All new hires must be fully trained before standing post, as required by the federal government:

• 1 week of classroom training
• 1 week of range/firearms training
• 2 days of X-ray and screening training

All training takes place in Columbus, OH

New hires are paid during training

Applicants must be available to attend in person

All uniforms, duty gear, firearm, and ammunition are provided by the company

Pay & Compensation

Base Pay:$30.76/hour

Health & Welfare / 401(k):$5.30/hour

Total Compensation: $36.06/hour

All officers on this contract are union members.
