Role Purpose

The Armed Security Officer provides continuous patrols of the Barnes Jewish Hospital / St. Louis Children’s Hospital / Washington University Medical Campus, within St. Louis City, being attentive and alert to the safety and welfare of visitors, patients, volunteers, staff, employees, and hospital property. Interacts with residents and visitors to St. Louis City as well as communicates with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The following certifications must be obtained and maintained within 12 months of hire: ASP Baton or Taser, CPR/AED, CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Pressure Point Control Techniques, Armed Security Officer’s License.

Responsibilities

1. Individuals must be 21 years or older to work in this position.
2. Respond to emergency and non-emergency situations within the hospital and medical campus according to department protocols.
3. Prevent losses and damages by reporting irregularities and policy violations.
4. Mitigate crisis situations, respond to disturbances, fires, crimes against persons and property, and interact with police as necessary.
5. Complete reports by recording observations, interviewing witnesses, and obtaining signatures.
6. Secure premises and personnel; monitor surveillance equipment; inspect buildings, equipment, and access points; permit entry through patrols.
7. This is a safety-sensitive position; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness is essential.
