Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an Armed Security Officer in New Brunswick, NJ to maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, physicians, students, vendors, and visitors. You will monitor facilities, de-escalate incidents, respond to emergencies, and provide guidance on access control and safety protocols.

The role requires NJ security licenses, a valid driver’s license, and prior law enforcement or military experience. It offers day shifts and hourly pay.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license with a clean record.
• NJ Retired Police Officer (RPO) Permit to Carry Handgun required.
• SORA Level 2 armed security officer license required.
• Level Three Retention Holster for handgun required.
• Five years prior law enforcement or military service required.
• Stand/walk up to 6–8 hours per day depending on shift.
• Hearing ability of at least 40 dB in each ear (with/without hearing aid).
• Safety equipment requirements such as N95 respirator must be met.
• Maintain CPR, first aid, and AED certification and de-escalation training.

Responsibilities

• Protect life, property, information and reputation by monitoring and securing entrances/exits.
• Remain stationary for up to 8 hours and walk facility 6–8 hours per day.
• Prolonged standing and walking.
• Hear and respond to events with sound judgment.
• Respond to emergencies and disturbances per system policy.
• Comply with NJ firearms qualification and related statutes.
• Duties may change and evolve with organizational needs.
