Job Description
Patrols and monitors buildings and grounds to protect life and property and to prevent fire, thefts, vandalism, illegal entry, and enforce system policies. Enforces access control policy. Secures doors, locks, etc., and activates or de-activates alarms as required. Controls and regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic in a safe, orderly, and respectful manner.
Job Responsibilities
- Patrols and monitors buildings and grounds to protect life and property, prevent fire, thefts, vandalism, illegal entry, and enforce hospital policies. Enforces access control policy.
- Secures doors, locks, etc., and activates or de-activates alarms as required.
- Controls and regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic in a safe, orderly, and respectful manner.
- Operates and maintains facility vehicles in accordance with regulatory compliance and policies.
- Operates and maintains all security and facility equipment following manufacturers' guidelines and facility policies.
- Writes incident reports to document events, following policies and procedures.
- Checks contents of packages.
- Assists security personnel in their duties, including use of physical force when required.
- Carries a firearm as directed.
- Reports fire hazards and safety violations. Escorts hospital personnel as needed.
- Assists in surveillance of high-profile patients/visitors and manages related records.
- Assists in investigations involving visitors, patients, and employees; makes recommendations.
- Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned but considered related are not essential functions.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Active or former sworn law enforcement personnel from a U.S. state or territory, or a licensed New York State Armed Security Guard, or equivalent, for at least 3 consecutive years required. Out-of-state applicants must meet HR218 requirements.
- Valid NYS Armed Security Guard license required.
- Valid NYS Pistol Permit required, authorizing carrying firearms in the employment and residence areas.
- Current or former NYS Police/Peace Officer preferred.
