Summary

The Armed Security Officer (ASO) meets the local, state, and federal requirements to perform duties as an armed officer. The primary duties may include: first response to emergencies; enforcing laws; conducting patrols, inspections, searches, traffic enforcement, and investigations; initiating detention and transportation; providing protective services such as guarding FLETC property; controlling access; and other duties as assigned. The ASO is armed with a side arm, shotgun, or other weapons as required.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety policies and perform duties safely.
• Arrive in proper uniform with issued equipment.
• Exercise force, including deadly force, as necessary.
• Participate in Guard Mount, receive posts, and follow instructions.
• Perform assigned orders and communicate as instructed.
• Interact with the public and government personnel as required.
• Provide access and traffic control, and conduct security functions.
• Maintain cleanliness of uniform and equipment.
• Follow SOPs and regulations regarding weapons, buildings, personnel, and property.
• Conduct personnel, vehicle, building, and parcel inspections.
• Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays if needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 21 years old.
• Experience or education in security or law enforcement, or military service.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Meet medical and physical standards outlined by relevant authorities.
• Qualify with firearms and complete required training.
• Pass drug and psychological testing.
• Legal eligibility to work in the U.S., including background checks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Tactful communication, ability to work under pressure, respectful interaction, responsibility, and follow-through.
