Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago seeks an Armed Security Officer to provide physical protection for persons and property on campus under supervision. You will conduct fixed, walking and vehicular patrols, monitor access and visitor management, and report incidents in accordance with RUMC policies.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, valid FOID and PERC, firearms training within two years, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must possess/maintain valid PERC from IDFPR after 20-hour training.
• Must possess/maintain valid FOID.
• Must complete 28-hour firearms training within 2 years of FCC application.
• Must obtain/maintain Illinois FCC within 90 days of employment.
• Must have firearms requalification score as required.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide fixed, walking and vehicular patrols of all RUMC buildings and grounds.
• Perform Security Services Dispatch functions.
• Conduct basic interviews and investigations.
• Observe and document security and safety hazards.
• Prepare incident reports and other written documentation.
• Assist local police during investigations or emergencies.
• Monitor access control and visitor management.
• Enforce traffic patterns in the Medical Center.
• Provide security escort services as assigned.
• Participate in property control procedures.
• Respond to emergency situations (codes).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $21.70- $24.24 per hour

Summary

Under the general supervision of a Security Supervisor, the armed Security Officer will provide physical protection for persons and safeguarding of property on the Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) Campus. The security officer will report and document infractions of rules, regulations and policies of RUMC; and violations of federal, state and local laws and/or ordinances. The security officer will exemplify the RUMC missions, visions and values and act in accordance with RUMC policies and procedures.

Knowledge

• High school graduate or GED.
• Must possess/maintain a valid Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) from the Illinois Department of Finance and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) after successfully completing a 20-hour security guard training course from an approved provider.
• Must possess/maintain a valid Illinois Firearm’s Owner’s Identification Card (FOID) as issued by the Illinois State Police.
• Must have successfully completed a 28-hour firearms training course (including revolver) from a State of Illinois approved provider within two (2) years of the Firearms Control Card (FCC) application, or the applicant must show proof on the FCC application of requalification with the last year at the time of application.
• Must be eligible to obtain/maintain an Illinois FCC from the IDFPR within 90 days of employment (including revolver certification).
• Must maintain a satisfactory firearms requalification score as mandated by the IDFPR.
• Valid Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin driver’s license required with a prior driving record deemed acceptable to Human Resources pursuant to a driver’s history check.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer service.
• Basic computer skills are essential.
• Must be flexible with scheduling.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Prior security experience in a healthcare environment.
• Healthcare security certification at the "basic" level by the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS).
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certified.

Physical Demands

• Able to tolerate prolonged walking/standing/sitting for the duration of shift.
• Able to withstand outdoor temperatures throughout the year.
• Able to perform required responsibilities.
• Able to successfully demonstrate the retention, use and maintenance of issued equipment.
• Able to lift at minimum 50 pounds to the waist height.
• Able to wear all issued equipment including ballistic vest and duty belt.
