Job summary

Trinity Health through St. Joseph’s Health seeks a Senior Security Officer (Armed) to provide armed, uniformed security across SJH campuses.

You will assess threats, respond to incidents, and coordinate with law enforcement, while maintaining safety for staff, patients, and visitors. Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, you will prepare detailed reports and ensure compliance with NYS laws and hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Valid State of New York Armed Security Guard License (includes firearms training and a valid NYS pistol permit)
• OR active police officer status (New York State) at time of hiring is required.
• Active police officers must obtain armed security license and a NYS pistol permit within 6 months upon being hired.
• Successful completion of the DCJS Basic Course for Police Officers preferred.
• High School Diploma/GED Certificate required. Associate degree preferred.
• A valid NYS Drivers License is required.
• IAHSS Basic Security Certification must be completed within one year of hire.
• FEMA Emergency Management Institute courses must be completed within 90 days of hire - IS - 100c.
• BLS Certification required upon hire or within 3 weeks of hire.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience in any combination of: Armed Security Guard, Healthcare/ Hospital security or Law Enforcement.
• (5) Years Law Enforcement Experience is preferred.
• Must successfully pass a Psychiatric evaluation prior to hire.
• Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the New York State Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law.
• Knowledge and understanding of the use of force continuum and it’s application within a private security setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintains department equipment in a safe manner.
• Operates department equipment including motor vehicles in a safe manner.
• Demonstrates proper and safe use of all assigned equipment and maintains proficiency in same, including firearm, pepper gel, etc.
• Performs all security/safety rounds and fixed post assignments; de-escalate workplace violence, mitigate threats and properly handle emotionally disturbed persons (EDP).
• Responds to calls for service promptly and in an appropriate manner.
• Conducts searches of patients, visitors and staff in accordance with policy.
• Ensures investigations are thorough and complete and submitted in a timely manner.
