Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a security officer to perform routine patrols, respond to non-emergency and emergency calls, and provide comprehensive security services across the campus. You will enforce safety policies and assist with morgue operations as needed.

The role requires the ability to work in stressful situations, pass defensive tactics and taser/pepper gel training, and to wear protective gear. The position is full-time, on-site at the Midland, MI campus.

Qualifications

• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups.
• Must pass Security Defensive Tactics Training.
• Must pass taser and pepper gel training.
• Ability to interact with people at all levels to communicate information clearly.
• If driving a company vehicle must be eligible under hospital insurance guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Conducts continuous random patrols, utilizing the patrol vehicle, bicycle, or foot patrol.
• Responds to all calls from the public, hospital staff, and the security dispatcher.
• Monitors and pages all fire codes on the fire monitor system located in security dispatch.
• Responds to hospital emergency overhead pages as determined by security dispatch.
• Physical management of patients going through crisis.
• Escorts patients to In Patient Mental Health or other areas as requested by staff.
• Monitors and reports alarms on the S&D alarm panel, generator alarm panel, HVAC computer, and Medical Air Gases alarm panels.
• Answers all calls for assistance on the facilities help line and creates maintenance work orders.
• Enters information from maintenance logs into the TMS application.
• Monitors CCTV and dispatches security officers as needed.
• Assists with helicopter flight operations and secures doors as required.
• Notifies managers for major incidents affecting facility property.
• Enforces parking policy and escorts employees as needed.
• Responds to all panic alarms throughout the facility.
• Armed staff respond to active shooter or lethal threats and neutralize when possible.
• Ensures contractors working above ceilings have Above Ceiling Access Permits.
• Writes reports as required and follows policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows.
• Assist with morgue operations and handling of deceased patients.
• Participation in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.
