Job summary

Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking an Armed Security Officer to safeguard patients, staff, and visitors in a Florida hospital environment. You will respond to emergencies, monitor surveillance, and enforce weapons-free campus policies while assisting with screening, access control, and visitor support.

You will work with security technology, conduct patrols, and participate in safety training, gun safety, and HIPAA compliance to ensure a secure, respectful patient experience.

Qualifications

• Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and effective manner.
• Proficiency with security equipment including firearm, taser and handcuffs.
• Ability to use security technology systems including cameras, weapon detection, alarms, and access control.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of healthcare security procedures and HIPAA.
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws governing security officers and the use of force including firearms.
• Must be able to meet the physical requirement associated with required training for certifications fitness assessment as required by the employer.
• Must be able to pass a psychological screening as required by employer.
• Must be able to pass an armed security officer assessment panel as required by employer.
• Must be able to pass firearms qualification course as required by employer.

Responsibilities

The Armed Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and guests. This position is responsible for responding promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including active threats and alarm activations, while enforcing institutional policies such as the weapons‑free campus. The officer conducts regular security patrols, monitors surveillance systems, and investigates incidents to uphold safety standards. Additionally, the role involves assisting with calls for medical aid, managing sensitive situations like employee terminations and prisoner security, and providing exceptional customer service by supporting screening processes, access control, and visitor assistance.

Licensure & Certifications

• CPR certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire. Certification will be tracked by the business.
• Self‑defense certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire. Certification will be tracked by the business.
• Axon/Taser® certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire. Certification will be tracked by the business.
• Florida Class "D" Security Officer License (must obtain within 90 days of hire)
• Florida Class "G" Firearm License (must obtain within 90 days of hire)
• Florida license within six (6) months of hire (if other licensure is required)
• Preferred Licensure: Stop the Bleed Certification, IAHSS Basic Certification

Minimum Education

• High School Diploma/GED (Minimum)
• Bachelor's Degree (Preferred), Criminal Justice or related field

Salary

Salary Range: $19.17 - $29.21. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job‑related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among team members in similar positions.
