Job summary

Piedmont Newton Hospital is seeking a full-time security officer to safeguard patients, staff and visitors while maintaining clear safety protocols across the campus. You will respond to emergencies, deter threats, document incidents, and collaborate with hospital leadership to ensure a secure environment.

Required are a high school diploma or GED and 2 years of public safety/security experience, including firearm-handling as part of duties.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED is required.
• At least 2 years of security/public safety experience, including bearing firearms as part of duty, is required.
• Must pass pre-employment screenings and certifications as required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors, and safeguard property.
• Serve as first responder to emergencies within the facility.
• De-escalate critical events and use sound judgment in interactions with individuals.
• Document incidents and conduct initial investigations.
• Monitor at-risk individuals and respond to aggressive behavior.
• Direct traffic when required and assist during emergencies.
• Respond to aggressive behavior and apply restraints as needed.
• Make sound judgments on force and safety to provide a secure environment.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for a variety of routine safety and emergency security activities while safeguarding students, employees, visitors, patients, and property. First responder to all emergency incidents within the assigned facility. Responsible for the safe de-escalation of critical events and the use of sound judgment in the engagement with combative or escalating subjects.

What you will do

• Demonstrate Piedmont values and excellent customer service to all patients, staff, and visitors within a Piedmont Facility.
• Screen for and interdict weapons as they enter a facility.
• Maintains security of the hospital, professional buildings, and parking lot/deck.
• Responsible for a variety of safety routines and emergency security activities
• Perform incident documentation and initial incident investigation.
• Responsible for actively monitoring all at-risk patients and de-escalating difficult situations.
• Respond appropriately to aggressive behavior and apply physical restraints.
• Make sound judgments when utilizing force, including deadly force, to provide a safe environment.
• Demonstrate respect and courtesy in the conduct of job performance.
• Perform documentation in the medical record.
• Enforces all PHC policies, regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Directs traffic when required
• Assists patients/visitors by giving directions and responding to emergencies.
• Advocates for crime prevention and a secure work environment through observation, interaction, and intervention

Qualifications:

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required

Work Experience

• 2 years of experience in general security, military or other public safety experience where required to actively carry a firearm in the regular course of duty Required or
• equivalence of training and job experience to support effective demonstration of responsible handling of weapons and use of force. Required

Licenses and Certifications

• DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State & adhere to Piedmont's Healthcare Vehicle Safety Program policy 3500 Upon Hire Required
• IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer within 1 Year Required
• Carry non-lethal weapons such as a Taser CEW and/or a baton Required
• Carry company issued firearm Required
• Must pass pre-employment psychological screening Required
• Must pass and maintain all training requirements to maintain employment to include certifications in Firearms, Taser, ASP Baton, Mental Health First Aid, and others as directed Required
• Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certification Preferred
