Job description

Armed Protective Security Officers (Operations)

Protective Security Officers are responsible for meeting local and federal requirements to perform duties as armed officers. The primary duties of a PSO include, but are not limited to, responding to emergencies, enforcing laws, conducting mobile patrols, inspections, searches, and controlling access. They are tasked with detecting, delaying, detaining, and apprehending individuals attempting unauthorized access to government property, in accordance with Post Orders. PSOs must always remain vigilant and observant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all company personnel and safety policies and perform duties safely.
  • Follow Post Orders and assigned duties.
  • Arrive in proper uniform with necessary issued equipment.
  • Participate in Guard Mount, receive post, and review additional instructions.
  • Use communication devices clearly and effectively.
  • Provide personal escort services for designated personnel or visitors as directed.
  • Conduct personnel, vehicle, building, and parcel inspections.
  • Carry firearm license/permit while on duty, as required by law.
  • Maintain logs, detailed incident reports, and files.
  • Report daily activities and incidents accurately.
  • Effectively operate magnetometers and X-ray machines.
  • Maintain credentials per contract requirements.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
  • Maintain a customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays if needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Physical Demands:

  • Perform tasks requiring physical ability.
  • Stand, walk, sit, and stoop frequently for up to 12 hours.
  • Maintain calm and clear communication with the public, law enforcement, and dispatch.
  • Remain on post for up to four hours without breaks.
  • Stay alert for up to 12 hours, responding quickly to emergencies.
  • Subdue or intervene with potentially violent individuals.
  • Occasional running, lifting, and climbing stairs.
Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED

Certification Requirements

MD Armed Guard Card, DHS Suitability, O.C. aerosol spray, MEB Expandable Baton, Handcuffing Tactics, DHS Letter of Suitability, Initial Weapon Training, Basic Training (72/64 hours), CPR/First Aid, Firearms Qualification, FPS Orientation Certificate
