Job summary

Constellis is seeking an Area Trainer in Chicago to oversee Handlers and canines, ensuring cargo screenings comply with TSA rules and regulations. The role focuses on supervising canine teams, conducting training, audits, and ensuring documentation and SOP adherence.

The successful candidate will have at least five years in explosive detection canine training and supervisory experience, be willing to travel up to 70% nationwide, and hold or pursue required security clearances.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of experience training canines and teams in explosive detection.
• Three years of documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational environment.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.
• Must be able to obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within four to six weeks of employment.
• Must have adequate transportation to transport assigned Canine and Crate (inside the vehicle) to/from assigned work location; transportation must have operational climate control.
• Must be able to pass the applicable Contract Testing and Certifications for the program within four to six weeks of employment; candidate must maintain the certification requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in solving unique training problems with detection dogs and team and knowledgeable of how to evaluate and apply canine training principles, conditioning and standards.
• Must have a valid Driver's License and a clear driving record for the last three years; must also be maintained during tenure of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and training to assigned Handlers and canines related to operational searches and training.
• Perform canine training, audits and administrative deliverables as required for assigned Canine Teams.
• Schedule and conduct recurring train teams for recertifications and remedial, sustainment, and advancement training.
• Provide temporary certified Handler duties as required for the program.
• Participate in CCSP related training to search cargo and identify explosive threats.
• Perform temporary Handler duties while commanding a trained explosive working dog as required for the program.
• Responsible for maintaining training records, care, and maintenance of assigned certified canine. The assigned canine must be permitted to live inside the employee’s residence.
• Develop and follow established training protocols in accordance with statements of work and SOPs.
• Arrange operational exercises to replicate real life scenarios and enable canines to work independently in high population density environments.
• Transport, secure, and account for canine training aids, equipment, company vehicles, canine trailers, company assets, and resources.
• Will conduct OJT and instruction of new Handlers and Trainers.
• Must maintain all job-related certifications and required security clearances.
• Must be willing to operate company vehicle.
• Must be able to obtain DoT and HAZMAT licenses.
• Inventory explosive training aids.
• Travel up to 70% to contract locations Nationwide.
• Work conditions can vary from a busy training environment to fieldwork, including nights, weekends, and holidays; and exposure to inclement weather and hazardous substances.

• Pay rate is compensated at $75,000/year

• Work conditions can vary from a busy training environment to fieldwork, both subject to frequent interruptions. Frequent work outside and ininclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Work hours will be dictated by the customers agreed upon schedule. Nights, weekends, and holiday hours will be required, and the work schedule will vary. Travel may also be required
