GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Area Supervisor is part of the Store Leadership team, responsible for a specific area of the store, overall operations, and supervising the store when acting as Manager on Duty. They oversee opening and closing the store, supervise associates, and ensure a friendly, easy-to-shop environment. They maintain merchandise presentation and a clean work area, and execute company operational processes as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments:
- Prioritize safety and practice safe behaviors at all times.
- Maintain awareness on the sales floor to ensure a safe shopping environment; report unsafe conditions.
- Secure the building, including managing entry/exit, EAS device checks, cash security, and receiving procedures.
- Keep exits clear and ensure customer safety, including accident prevention and emergency procedures.
- Test fire alarm systems and respond to after-hours alarms.
Customer Service:
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognize associates' efforts.
Personal and Store Brand:
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain professional appearance and ensure adherence to dress code.
- Keep store areas clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Manage daily trash removal.
General Merchandising:
- Ensure merchandise recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet standards.
- Manage merchandise receiving, processing, and organization.
- Assist in merchandise placement and back-stock management.
- Reduce loss due to damage and ensure compliance with presentation guidelines.
Loss Prevention:
- Follow Loss Prevention programs, maintain a high customer service presence, and engage with customers and associates to prevent loss.
- Safeguard confidential information and merchandise.
- Maintain PVM system and conduct package inspections.
Front End Supervision and Operations:
- Ensure front-end standards, manage lines, and train associates on cash register procedures.
- Control break schedules, equipment functionality, and supplies.
- Manage go-backs, security tagging, and merchandise salability.
Fitting Rooms:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of fitting rooms.
- Audit and process returned merchandise according to policy.
Administrative Duties:
- Handle cash pulls, bank deposits, and payroll administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
COMPETENCIES:
- Manage work processes, build talent, collaborate, communicate effectively, and ensure accountability and execution.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Excellent verbal communication skills and fluency in English.
- Previous customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with POS systems and basic math skills.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
Ability to use store equipment, stand/walk for long periods, and lift up to 25 lbs (or more for stockroom shifts). Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, squatting, and reaching.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Retail associates and stockroom leads where applicable.
