Heidelberg Materials is seeking an Area Operations Manager in Westchester, IL to lead several sites with a strong focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and cost control. You will manage budgets, drive continuous improvement, and oversee capital projects while developing high-performing teams across multiple locations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and 7+ years in heavy industrial operations, with travel within the area and a proven track record in safety and efficiency improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mining, engineering, operations/industrial mgmt, or related field.
• 7+ years of operations leadership in aggregates/mining or heavy industrial ops; multi-site preferred.
• Strong knowledge of MSHA and ability to lead safety culture and compliance.
• Experience managing budgets and cost drivers to improve productivity and cost per ton.
• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to develop teams and drive change.

Responsibilities

• Lead several sites with six direct reports and 100 indirect reports.
• Demonstrate safety as a core value; conduct field observations, safety meetings, incidents, and corrective actions.
• Own operating budgets; review monthly results, identify variances, and implement cost-control actions.
• Identify and execute CI initiatives to improve throughput, energy efficiency, and quality.
• Lead CAPEX scoping for site improvements; develop business cases and ensure targets are met.
