Job summary

Heidelberg Materials is seeking an Area Operations Manager based in Thornton, IL to lead safe, efficient operations across multiple aggregates sites. You will drive production targets, ensure quality and customer service, and coach site leaders to uphold safety and regulatory standards.

You will manage budgets, control cost per ton, coordinate maintenance, and collaborate with EHS on inspections, training, and improvements. Regular travel to sites is required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of operations leadership experience in aggregates/mining or heavy industrial operations.
• Multi-site leadership experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of MSHA and regulatory compliance.
• Experience managing budgets and cost drivers; improve productivity and cost per ton.
• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to develop teams and lead change.

Responsibilities

• Lead safe, efficient operations across multiple aggregates sites, ensuring safe and consistent operating standards.
• Deliver production, quality, and customer service targets through planning, daily management and coaching.
• Ensure MSHA, DOT, and environmental compliance; partner with EHS on inspections, audits, training and corrective action closure.
• Drive equipment reliability and maintenance execution, including outage coordination, downtime prioritization, and PM compliance.
• Own cost per ton performance through budget management, variance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
