Job summary

OnTrac is seeking an Area Manager for its Commerce, CA facility. You will lead a team of Package Handlers and Leads, optimize sort activities, and ensure safety and productivity in a fast-paced environment.

You will report to the Operations Manager and drive performance improvements, staff development, and data-driven decision making. A strong background in logistics and people management is essential for success.

Qualifications

• GED or Diploma is required.
• BA/BS degree is preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of industry experience (logistics/shipping/3PL) with at least 1 year in leadership.
• Strong data evaluation and presentation skills.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office use and math skills.
• Effective communication and feedback abilities.
• Experience hiring, training, motivating, disciplining and evaluating staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage, staff, and schedule a team of handlers and leads in a facility area.
• Monitor performance, provide feedback, and address attendance.
• Lead pre-sort meetings and communicate daily goals and safety priorities.
• Track volume flow from linehauls and manage departures/arrivals.
• Perform safety training, audits, and end-of-shift reporting.

Employment Logistics:

As an Area Manager for OnTrac, you will report directly to the Operations Manager of the facility and be responsible for managing all the sort activities and volume within an assigned area. In addition, you will be responsible for identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing change to enhance business outcomes within the operation.

The Must-Haves:

• GED/Diploma required, BA/BS college degree in related discipline preferred
• A minimum of 2 years of industry experience – (ex. logistics, shipping, 3PL) with at least 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience
• Ability to effectively evaluate and summarize data and present answers to questions
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft office and mathematical skills
• Effective communication skills including the ability to give honest, constructive feedback
• Experience with hiring, training, motivating, disciplining, and completing performance evaluations for employees

• You will frequently need to stand, walk, sit, and use your hands to handle or feel.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Your Mission in Motion:

• Manage, staff and schedule a team of Package Handlers and Lead Package Handlers in an assigned area in the facility to ensure quality standards while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.
• Monitor employee progress, provide ongoing feedback, identify areas for improvement, and address performance/attendance.
• Conduct pre-sort meetings, keeping employees informed of daily goals, upcoming events, and safety priorities. Maintain an open line of communication to engage employees.
• Record and manage the departures/arrivals of and the flow of volume from designated Linehauls.
• Execute various administrative duties, including but not limited to, safety training, operational audits, and end of shift reporting.

• You maintain a flexible schedule to support 24-hour operations, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays when needed.
