Job summary

Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is hiring an Area Manager for Central Alabama to lead operations in the Birmingham, AL office. This role will drive growth, manage client relationships, and oversee regional performance, budgets, and strategic execution across the Central Alabama market.

You will lead high-performing teams, develop regional growth plans, and ensure operational efficiency while maintaining strong client service standards. Regular travel and potential extended hours are expected.

Qualifications

• What you’ll need: 10+ years of operating management experience in a consulting engineering environment, with 5+ years in senior management preferred.
• Proven success in business development and revenue growth.
• Strong financial management and project oversight experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership aligned with company mission and core values.

• Partner with senior leadership to strengthen operational structure and processes.
• Drive revenue growth and profitability within the assigned market.
• Serve as lead client account manager for key clients and major projects.
• Represent the firm with integrity in client, community, and industry settings.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
• Oversee regional P&L, project budgets, and financial performance.
• Monitor cash flow and ensure timely client payments.
• Support financial reporting and proactively address efficiency gaps.
• Ensure operational controls, reporting procedures, and performance standards are met.
• Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers and Client Account Managers.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
• Partner with HR and executive leadership on workforce planning and talent development.
• Recruit, train, and develop future leaders.
• Regular travel, including overnight travel, is required.

Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is hiring an Area Manager - Central Alabama for our Birmingham, AL office to lead operations, drive growth, and develop high-performing teams within the Central Alabama market. This role is responsible for overall business performance, client relationships, financial oversight, and strategic execution across the region.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include

What you'll need
