Job summary

Railcrew Xpress Llc in Des Moines, IA is seeking an Area/Location Manager to oversee all staff, safety, and operations at the location. You will recruit, hire, mentor, coach, and discipline employees while maintaining a strong relationship with railroad management and dispatch.

You’ll drive 24/7 service coverage, manage driver hours, conduct training, and coordinate with HR for incident investigations and returns to work.

Qualifications

  • Previous management experience preferred.

  • Ability to schedule drivers and manage hours of service (HOS).

Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment and hiring for drivers and support staff.
  • Supervise training, performance coaching, and disciplinary actions.
  • Schedule and manage Hours of Service and rosters for all drivers.
  • Liaise with railroad management and dispatch on site operations.
  • Conduct safety inspections and incident follow-ups, including driver communications.
  • Oversee payroll adjustments and non-revenue payroll processes.
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance scheduling and documentation is up to date.
  • Maintain professional relationships with rail personnel and customers.

Job description

This position is responsible for the overall performance of the location and/or area assigned. The Area/Location Manager is responsible for the recruiting, hiring, mentoring coaching and discipline for all employees within the location. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining positive and professional relationship with the railroad management at the location. This position is responsible for the 24/7 service and coverage to RCX railroad clients.Primary Job ResponsibilitiesConducts regular observations to ensure proper procedures are followed by driversConducts pre-employment and all random drug and alcohol tests, including mailing to lab if requiredResponsible for initial investigation of employee allegations. Coaching and disciplining when applicable or escalating to HR.Responsible to ensure all drivers are scheduled and work within their Hours of Service (HOS)Engages railroad to determine possible hub closure due to weather conditions and keeps dispatch informedResponsible for obtaining statements and pictures of all accident incidents and forwarding to Risk DepartmentDirect employees that have been in accidents to approved facilities or providers for Work Comp injuries/claims and completes required documentsCommunicates with injured drivers to schedule return to workReviews camera clips daily and provides coaching regarding performance captured in the reviewsConducts Job Fairs, interviews and hires for Drivers, Lead Drivers and PDS’Organizes and schedules all training facilities and materialsTrains all newly hired employees for locationConducts day 1 of driver trainingConducts ride-along evaluationsProvide supervision of all positions in locationEnsures all training documentation is completed and submitted to the appropriate departmentMentor and coaches all positions within the locationResponsible for disciplinary actions and terminations with staff and providing documentation timely to HR.Schedules and leads employee meetingsBuilds and manages all Professional Driver drive time schedules and days offControls and submits all non-revenue payroll adjustmentsUpdate driver boards and keeps dispatch informed of changesWorks directly with dispatch to cover road tripsFax all shift/MPV paperwork to appropriate departmentWorks with railroad regarding reported Yard Safety issuesInitiate approval from fleet for all vehicle repairsResponsible for scheduling and ensuring regular maintenance and repair of all vehicles in locationArranges transport of all vehicles for repairs and maintenance workRegularly inspects vehicles to ensure all documentation is current and presentPerforms and submits monthly safety vehicle inspectionsDistributes company communications as requiredResponsible for taking employee call-ins when drivers can’t workMaintain professional relationship with railroad personnelMinimum RequirementsMaintain a current valid state issued driver’s license issued by the state of residence.Less than two (2) moving violations within the last three (3) years.No careless, reckless or failure to control violation in the last five (5) years.No driving under the influence convictions in the previous seven (7) years.No record of drug or alcohol-related convictions within the previous four (4) years.No auto theft conviction in the last seven (7) years.Employees or applicants required to report on a sex offender registry will be reviewed for any disqualifying factors or crimes of concern.Must be cleared by eRailsafe or background report required by the company. A felony conviction within the last seven (7) years, released from a penal institution within the last five (5) years or crimes of concern may be disqualifying factors.Must have valid passport or border crossing documents (where required).Physical QualificationsMust be a minimum of 21 years of ageAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.Position requires extended periods of time sitting, usually drivingAbility to safely operate company vehicleEmployees must be able to meet the physical requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act’s, Section 391.41 (if required) by submitting and passing a DOT physical examination.Ability to hear instructions and directions over the phone and/or radio.Submit to and received negative drug and/or alcohol testPersonal QualificationsExcellent interpersonal skillsStrong attention to detailStrong organizational skillsPrevious management experience preferred.
