Job Responsibilities

Plan and deliver instruction to diverse learners, including those with special needs, in line with state and district standards. Create a safe, engaging learning environment that promotes academic success, physical fitness, and life skills for global citizenship. Work independently under moderate supervision, applying foundational knowledge effectively.

Essential Job Duties

• Teach grade-relevant, subject-specific, and mandated curriculum
• Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person and virtual learning, showing evidence of preparation
• Communicate with students, parents, and district personnel via phone, email, or video conferencing
• Create a conducive classroom environment for physical, social, and emotional development
• Use internet and web-based technology for instruction and collaboration
• Assess, document, and report student progress, attendance, and performance
• Supervise student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct
• Participate in conferences and meetings as required
• Perform instructional duties such as ordering materials and attending professional development
• Direct work of paraprofessionals or instructional aides as needed
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance

Additional Requirements for Special Education Teachers

• Identify educational needs and instruct students with varying exceptionalities
• Follow IEPs, assess progress, and communicate with families
• Serve as case manager for students with disabilities
• Adhere to Georgia educator ethics

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission

Special Certifications

• Special education teachers must hold appropriate certification in service areas, aligned with their teaching assignment
• ESOL & Gifted endorsements required
