Job Description Summary: The Area Business Manager (ABM) for East Japan is a critical leadership position within the Commercial Japan department, responsible for spearheading strategic growth and operational excellence across these key regions. This role is essential to our mission of expanding market presence and enhancing competitive advantage in Japan, a pivotal market for our global operations.

The primary purpose of the ABM is to optimize sales strategies and cultivate robust relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring alignment with regional needs and preferences. The role is tasked with managing Key Account Managers (KAM) and operations across multiple locations, requiring a strategic mindset and the ability to navigate complex market landscapes effectively.
This position plays a vital role in executing the company's strategic vision for growth in Japan, focusing on enhancing brand recognition, increasing market share, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. The ABM collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure initiatives are in sync with the company's overarching objectives, contributing to long-term success in the Japanese market. Job Description:

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • The Area Business Manager for East Japan will play a pivotal role in driving the success of the organization within the designated region.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive business strategies tailored to the unique market dynamics of East Japan. This includes setting short-term and long-term goals, identifying growth opportunities, and aligning regional objectives with the overall corporate vision.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of sales and marketing professionals. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure the team is equipped with the necessary tools and training to excel.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive activities. Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and adjust strategies as needed to maintain a competitive edge in the region.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and internal teams. Act as the primary point of contact for major accounts and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address client needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Achieving Sales Targets: Drive the achievement of regional sales targets by developing and executing effective sales plans. Monitor sales performance, analyze results, and implement corrective actions to address any gaps. Ensure the team meets or exceeds revenue and profitability goals.
  • Sales Training and Development: Lead KAM certification and account planning sales training programs to enhance team capabilities and ensure alignment with sales strategies.

Specific examples of tasks include:

  • Developing monthly business reviews to assess progress and recalibrate strategies.
  • Leading weekly team meetings to align priorities and address challenges.
  • Establishing partnerships with wholesalers to expand market reach.
  • Support for designing incentive programs to motivate the sales team and boost performance in collaboration with Commercial Excellence/Operations.
  • Preparing detailed reports on market conditions and presenting findings to senior leadership.
  • Expected outcomes for this role include consistent revenue growth, enhanced market share, a highly engaged and productive team, and strengthened relationships with key stakeholders. The Area Business Manager will be instrumental in ensuring the organization’s sustained success in the East Japan region.
  • A unique aspect of this role is the emphasis on cross-functional collaboration. The role will work closely with marketing, commercial excellence, MSLs, and medical information teams to ensure a cohesive approach to market penetration and customer satisfaction. Requirements for the role include:

  • The ideal candidate for the Area Business Manager role should possess a strong educational background, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, or a related field. An advanced degree such as an MBA would be highly advantageous.
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar leadership role within Rare Diseases.
  • Proven success in managing and developing people.
  • Certified Medical Representative.
